I once read an article on the internet saying that if The Sun is the "father" of life through its light and warmth, the Sea is the "mother", as it symbolically represents a large womb. In fact, we survive for several months in our mother's womb, floating in what we commonly call amniotic fluid and, after birth, we are also laid in a cradle, which, in the old days, was shaped like a small rocking boat and even allowed for a certain swaying motion which calmed the baby by simulating the movement of the waves of the sea. And if that were not enough, the Latin words "mare" (sea) and "mater" (mother) are adjacent and, therefore, neighbours.
Nobody better than our friend and artist Marc Esteve, knows how to capture in each of his works the existing connection within the symbolism of the elements, where the Sea (Water) occupies an intermediate position between the subtle or informal (Air) and the dense or formal (Earth).
And... returning to the theme of "mother", the term with which we have started our blog for this month of May. From Artsana Fine Art we wish all mothers a happy mother's day, celebrated today, on the First Sunday of May.
