Today the ArtSana Team has met the artist and friend Ximo Canet. Although we know about his great culinary skills, we are going to talk to him about one of the most viral, notorious and popular topics of the moment, as, for those who still don't know, he has been the artist appointed to create the Poster for the Moors and Christians Festival of Alcoi 2025, a festival declared of International Tourist Interest since 1980.
Although I find it strange to talk to you in Spanish Ximo, let's ask you a few questions:
ArtSana: First of all, congratulations!
X.Canet: Thank you very much. Once discovered, we'll see the work you've done.
ArtSana: How would you define your artistic style?
X. Canet: Painting is for me like cooking: an alchemy of natural ingredients that awaken a journey through the senses’. I consider myself a Mediterranean Artist with roots in the Earth, alchemist of the Earth, the Sea and the Spices. My work is a hymn to nature and human intervention in it, a call to care for the essential, to preserve the beauty that sustains us. As a matter artist, I have woven a language of my own, a mixture between the evocative figuration and suggestive abstraction, where I invite the viewer to get lost and to discover.
ArtSana: How has your work evolved over time?
X. Canet: As a multifaceted and multidisciplinary artist, I am passionate about experimenting with the ‘painter's kitchen’, that alchemy of painting that gives life to my creations. I work with three techniques that are also three trades of the soul: egg tempera, marbling or ebru in oil, and gyotaku.
ArtSana: And now the million-dollar question: How did you feel when you knew that you had been ‘chosen’ in order to make the Poster in a city like Alcoi, where everyone has an opinion? (laughs...)
X. Canet: Well, I'm proud because it's like a recognition of my whole career, like a prize, but it's also a challenge to represent a whole town and the main festival that moves the city.
ArtSana: I'm afraid of what the answer is going to be, but... Can you give us a preview of the poster?
X. Canet: Well, no details, but I have tried to make it represent the city and the festival, to announce the event almost without words and to identify Alcoi. Colours and aromas of the festival will be the title.
ArtSana: Although we would spend hours and hours chatting with you, work calls us and the text of our blog does not give us much more time. Nothing more than wishing you the best of luck and that we, the Artsana Team, will be there in the front row on the day of the ‘unveiling’ (More laughter...).
